To the south of the Tennis Court Buildings, at either side of the Old Gym, were two pairs of classrooms. The foundations were laid towards the end of 1952, with a completion date set for the end of 1953. The western block, belonging to the Girls' Department, was originally used for History.
Both had been built to ease classroom overcrowding in the '50s. A West Riding Classroom on the Junior Mixed campus across the road was also used by the Secondary Modern, around the turn of the '60s, when the classroom shortage was getting rediculous.
West Riding blocks were a standardised pre-fab classroom building system operated by the West Riding LEA. Designed as a temporary measure, this pair remained until the turn of the millennium, when the new Lower School finally rendered them redundant.
The Tennis Court Buildings were also WR classrooms, albeit of a different design.
The boys' block was broken into in 1956, causing over £7 worth of damage.
By the end of their life, the west (girls') block was the Language Block and the east (boys') the Maths Block.
